Water!

Intending only to work on the electrical wiring today, Jason, Nathan, John and I were met at the lake house by a neighbor who told us Lonnie had the trencher and had been looking for us.

So we worked on laying pipe today. Lonnie came by with a monster trencher at least five feet wide. We had to scurry quickly to clear a wider path of rocks, bushes and old concrete. Truly hard work but not nearly as back breaking as what was to come.

Lonnie dug the trench but the large dirt shifting surface side screw broke free of it's shaft. Examining the screw I saw it had been welded several times before so it was not exactly a stranger to trauma. Lonnie had a buddy who will weld the screw back on and hopefully we'll avoid damage charges.

The boys and I went fishing and Jason swam before we tackled digging the rest of the trenches at both pipe ends. Nathan caught a small fish and before we knew it, dark was coming and we had to hustle.

We dug the trenches, laid the pipe, connected pipe to the meter supply with the required compression fitting and, then, began the strenuous job of filling in the trench.

I haven't done this kind of hard physical labor in years and it was tough. Jason and Nathan worked their butts off and we all finished sweating rivers and mud-grubby as hell.

The connected pipe is ready for inspection and pressure testing tomorrow and failing catastrophe, we should have a reliable, always ready water supply!

I think the hard work made a deep impression on all of us, especially Jason and Nathan, how we may look at fresh, clean water supplies with a lot more appreciation.

Water mean flushable toilets, baths and showers, outdoor hoses for cleaning and anti-pyro activities. (Deb) and no more water hauling.
